Addiction

As we have been looking at spiritual warfare of the mind we will find that some battle addiction which can come in all forms from drugs, alcohol, pornography, etc. When trying to quit the battle in our minds is often plagued with thoughts like…

I tell myself I got this, then there’s times I don’t know why I repeat it and my face in my palms wondering why do I struggle?

Interestingly Jesus said Flesh is Weak but the Spirit is Willing

Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Each time I fail I keep promising God I will stop but get consumed with much guilt when I fail. It may not be the best, but I want to quit. God must be tired of me like everyone else. The guilt is unbearable.

1 John 3:20 "If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything."

Would God truly forgive me? I feel bad I promise to stop but continue to fail

1 John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Often they say you are who you hang out with. It’s hard finding people to relate with when my friends seem to be the only people I relate with.

Bible surprisingly mentions this

1 Cor 15:33 "Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character."

Then I find myself asking will God help me?

*The Bible says Yes if we have faith and willing to work

James 2:17 "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."

*The Bible interesting shows that what we reap we sow. If we try to quit or decide not quit we will bear the outcome

Gal 6:7b "…. A man reaps what he sows."

*Often I feel anxiety over quitting and wondering if I will make progress. I often wonder if God cares at all

Bible interestingly says these things

Phil 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

This verse gives hope because if we don’t give up while on the road to recovery we will reap from it!

Gal 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
